Good; No jacket. 1887 Belford, Clarke & Company. Caxton Edition. New and revised edition. Hardcover has brown cloth-covered boards with elaborate black stamped floral decorations on spine and front cover. Spine has title "The Scout" on gold panel. Endpapers have overall vine pattern in brown on white. Black and white frontispiece. Front hinge partially cracked, but still strong. Paper covering at top of back hinge starting to crack. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed, with some fraying at tips and spine ends. Spine has a few nicks and a chipped area above publisher's name. Spine ends worn and frayed. Covers have edge wear, edge nicks, and surface rubbing. Covers rubbed and lightly soiled. Page edges have a few spots and are darkened. Name in pencil on blank reverse of frontispiece. NO highlighting or other markings in text. One page is dog-eared. A few pages have light handling smudges. Pages tanned but still supple. 472 pages. No dust jacket. Printed & bound by Donohue and Henneberry, Chicago. Front cover has "Caxton Edition" in large letters and quotation 'May blessings be upon the head of Cadmus, the Phoenicians, or whoever it was that invented books'-Thos. Carlyle.
