The subjects covered range from accounts of battles and lists of ships to notices of promotions and marriages, courts martial and deaths, and biographies, poetry and letters. Each volume also contains engravings and charts relating to naval engagements and important harbours around the world. Volume 35, published in 1816, concentrates on British attempts to suppress the Barbary pirates in the Mediterranean and discusses state papers describing these diplomatic efforts. The volume also includes fascinating descriptions of the community the descendants of the mutineers of the Bounty created on the Pitcairn Islands, together with a biography of Alexander Dalrymple and maps and descriptions of St Petersburg harbour and Bornholm Island, Sweden.
