Aspiring musician Jerry Herst (Leo Marks) leaves his family and moves to Hollywood, seeking to become a student of Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (Xander Berkeley), who wrote hundreds of scores for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
