This compilation from the diary of the last Hudson's Bay Company apprentice, in the 1930s, is an absolute charmer and a service to Arctic history. Touching, romantic and adventure-filled this is a great read and a good gift.

Hated to see this book end.
This is a sweet book that will transport you into the world of the Inuit people in the Baffin Island region as seen through the eyes of a very young British boy who signed on with the Hudson's Bay Company in the 1930's.
Edward learns to speak the Inuit language and through his amazing experiences in the arctic becomes a man. His story includes fighting devastating illness and near starvation of the people he lived with and his remarkable coming of age. This is an exceptional book and I think it deserves to very widely read.
