Ambitious, meticulously researched and lucidly written, The Harvest of Sorrow is the first full history of Stalin's war against the Russian peasantry. The double blow of dekulakization and collectivization was followed by a "terror-famine" inflicted on the collectivized peasants of the Ukraine and other areas. The death toll resulting from these actions was an estimated 14.5 million, yet, to this day, the Kremlin refuses to acknowledge that the famine took place.
