Not even Holocaust survivor books are as chilling as these written accounts by Nazi officers who perform aktions before lunch and look forward to a fabulous dinner and drink that evening. But even as you read and marvel at the brutality and lack of humanity in these men, you detect in the writing a reluctance or sadness. It seems that brutality is its own executioner.
