I read a clip from this book and it sounded interesting but I actually haven't been able to finish it. A futuristic scenario, population of canabalistic humanoids. The country is in a state of siege from the bulk of the population. Those not affected by whatever caused the problem are living behind electric fences. A school where children kept chained and tied up because they don't know what they are, they're being educated to see how much they can be taught. Some are used for experiments. Centres round one child who forms an attachment to one of the teachers. Sorry to say, I thought this was a thoroughly nasty book. However, there have been rave reviews and, I believe a film, so might just be me.
