Pete Dannifer had drifted into town from nowhere and his plan was to drift right out again....until he became involved with a girl named Tammy and the king pin in the town, Neal Shute, who claimed the girl for himself. It quickly turned into a no win situation for Dannifer--he could leave and Shute would get the girl, or stay and probably be killed by Shute's hired gun men. Most of this story is told from Tammy McCain's view point, and Will Cook is known for his strong female characters, one thing he often got into trouble for with editors back then. This is a well crafted, quick paced novel, with a town full of characters to keep you interested and guessing as to what will happen next. Good book.
