Erato, the French early music label, has culled from its catalog 220 tracks of music representing the era of Louis XIV for this 2011 collection: The Court of the Sun King. The recordings range from some of Erato's very first issues from 1953 -- Charpentier's Te Deum with Marie-Claire Alain on the organ -- to those made as late as 1998: François Couperin's Messe pour les Couvents de religieux et religieuses, also featuring Alain. The sound will vary depending on the recording date, but the performances are commendable.
