This show was first a play by the superb actor-writer Jason Miller which I saw in a production at Seattle Repertory Theater in the early 1970s ... This was controversial (maybe shocking?) due to its profanity and frankly explicit sexual talk, and subject (infidelity; political corruption) at the time. I think it holds up today as a good drama. Being a movie it takes us outside of the coach's home where it was set as a play. Robert Mitchum was a great choice to play the coach. Of course, Stacy Keach and Bruce Dern were reunited memorably many years later in Alexander Payne's "Nebraska" film. Great to see Martin Sheen and Paul Sorvino, too. Not a great movie, but definitely fun!
