The first time he saw Dana she was dancing barefoot, her hair aflame in the red glow of the club, her body throbbing with rhythms and cross-rhythms that only she could hear. He was mesmerised. That night they were both deaf, mouthing to each other over the booming bass. And it was not until their first date, after he had agonised over what CD to play in the car, that Bridger learned that her deafness was profound and permanent. By then he was falling in love. Now she is in a courtroom, her legs shackled, as a list of charges is read out. She is accused of auto theft, possession of a controlled substance, assault with a deadly weapon - the list goes on. Clearly there has been a terrible mistake. And as Dana and Bridger set out to find the person who is living a blameless life of criminal excess at her expense, they begin to test the life they have built together to its limits. Talk Talk is both a thrilling road trip across America and a moving story about language, love and identity from one of America's finest novelists.

Identity theft is a modern nightmare, and this novel details, from both sides of the fence?thief and victim?just how pervasive and ineradicable the problem is.

Wow - by far this is the best I've read so far of his books. Could not put it down. Have already lent it out for a friend to enjoy.

Talk Talk
_Talk Talk_ is a disturbing book about sociopaths, identity theft, and there is a lot of talk. Ironicially, one of the main characters, who gets her identity stolen, is deaf so this book is multilingual. There are many conflcts between the theif and the victims, the hearing and non hearing, and men and women. This is an action packed book that leaves on the edge of your seat. You have no idea how Boyle will resolve all of the conflicts in his wonderful, readable, sad story.

Deafness & Identity Theft
TC Boyle usually chooses unusual themes and loves delving into the past, but this time he tackles a contemporary topic -- identity theft. As the victim -- a deaf woman -- chases the thief who ruined her life across the country, we learn a great deal about the challenges and prejudices faced by the deaf in a hearing world. The book is an eye opener on both topics, and a pretty good action tale with a fascinating villain whose gourmet tastes are indulged by otherpeople's credit cards.
