Seller's Description:
First edition of the Sunday Times journalists' classic retelling of Crowhurst's tragic and entirely fabricated round-the-world yacht race. Octavo, original boards, pictorial endpapers, illustrated with numerous photographs, charts, and maps. Fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by David Stanfield. Soon after departing from from Teignmouth, Devon to compete in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, British businessman Donald Charles Alfred Crowhurst's began taking on water. He secretly abandoned the race while reporting false positions, in an attempt to appear to complete a circumnavigation without actually doing so. His trimaran was later found abandoned and it was assumed that he then either fell or jumped overboard and drowned. Here, Sunday Times journalists Nicholas Tomalin and Ron Hall recount his fateful voyage using Crowhurst's own log books and photographs.
