Dworkin, received a MacArthur genius grant, and its successes have gained much wider publicity than similar efforts in many other places. Simply put, the Sphinx Virtuosi deliver the goods musically. They tend to split their performances between mainstream repertory and works by African-American and Latino composers, and so they do here with a group of lyrical string orchestra pieces that are similar in texture and pace but absolutely never drag.
