This work is one of a series of nine books/software simulations developed by the Consortium for Upper-Level Physics Software (CUPS) with the support of the National Science Foundation, IBM, Apple Computers and George Mason University. CUPS is an international group of 27 physicists with extensive backgrounds in research, teaching, and the development of instructional software. Their goal was to develop computer simulations and associated texts for the nine undergraduate courses. Each volume in the series offers simulations that are complex, often realistic, calculations of models of various physical systems. Solid State Physics Simulations includes phonon dispersion curves, density of states, and specific heat for 30D crystals, wave functions on a finite 1-D lattice; motion of an electron wave packet on a 1-D lattice; wave functions in the LCAO approximation; and building your own solid state devices.
