Throughout the series' inaugural season (originally telecast on two different networks, CBS and USA), Rita is teamed with Sgt. Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes), and despite the fact that the two undercover cops are immensely attractive, they manage to keep their working relationship on a strictly-business level. Also seen during season one is Chris and Rita's superior officer, Captain Hutchinson (Ben Vereen), a grouchy traditionalist; assistant D.A. George Donovan (William Anton) who disapproves of the cops' methods and is clearly a bit jealous of their trendy wardrobes; and radio psychologist Melissa Cassidy (Kim Morgan Greene), with whom Chris has a brief romance.
