Those interested in Rzewski might start with pianist Ralph van Raat's fine recording of that work, but those whose interest has already developed may well be attracted to this release. The Four Pieces of 1977 were conceived of by Rzewski as a kind of sequel to The People United Will Never Be Defeated. It is not on the same scale, but it develops Andean-flavored material in a similar way, and it may well fascinate those who might take on the as-yet-unrealized project of carrying Rzewski's style forward.
