In the well-worn Concierto de Aranjuez of Joaquín Rodrigo, Kuang has the good sense not to try to improve on Andrés Segovia, Narciso Yepes, and all the other famous figures who have recorded this joyous work, contenting himself with elegant, wonderfully precise renditions of its lines and runs. Manuel Ponce's Concierto del sur shows similar mastery on Kuang's part; he catches the distinct but never dominating presence of flamenco-style guitar in the work nicely. These performances would be enough to show a very young guitarist on the brink of stardom, but there are two big additional incentives here.
