The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra performs these rich-sounding, generally good-humored works by Richard Strauss with polish under conductor Herbert Blomstedt. Burleske, Strauss' work for piano and orchestra that is quintessentially Romantic in style, has clearly defined roles for the orchestra and the piano, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet is as precise and refined as the orchestra, never trying to outshine it.
