Some of the earlier items were recorded by the Hänssler Classic label with its attention to fine engineering detail, and Hänssler Classic's engineers seem to have left good instructions for their SWR successors; the sound, recorded in all cases at the Freiburg Konzerthaus, is both transparent and consistent. So the choice between the individual albums and the box set comes down to considerations of music-making.
