Dr. Beckwith describes an journey many others have taken and more will follow in the future. The heart of the matter, to paraphrase the author, is that protestant fundamentalism, and to a degree both large and small, large denominations, reinvent themselves about every 30 years. Since there are between 30 and 50 thousand denominations, this is a lot of turmoil. I believe this is so because Protestants who follow Christianity discover two things. First is that the Catholic teachings are those developed and treasured from the institution of the church. Second, more than 1500 years after Christ died, and in a spirit of protest, the Proteststant has to continue protesting to validate the choice to ignore church history, spiritual and temporal.
This is 'must read' for book serious Protestants because of its clarity and honesty.
