Ibragimova's playing makes an impression as clean and bright right from the beginning of the first movement of the Lekeu sonata. Her strength is her continuous, beautifully smooth legato. Tiberghien's piano is balanced to sound like an equal voice to the violin. It is, however, the piano that seems to energize the violin rather than the other way around: sometimes Ibragimova's violin seems low in energy. The second movement is even more subdued, and again, it does not seem to move enough. There is a sparkling, brief piano interlude that engages the listener more, but it is not until the third movement that one can hear Ibragimova come alive. Here, the music seems to have forward motion, and her highly vibrated, legato notes are bowed very much into the string with a bubbling piano underneath, and it is a joy to hear. The vigorous ending is active and lively: one can see what these musicians are capable of....
