This book is a must have for any African American photographer and student of African American history. Addison Scurlock, documented with photographs, African American history in and around Washington, D.C. from 1911 through the 1980's. This book is a collaboration between the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Museum of African American History. It contains over 200 pages replete with Mr. Scurlock's wonderful photos of the well known of that time along with regular folks. His studio sat at 9th and U St., N.W., the heart of black Washington and he captured black life in Washington, D.C. just as James VanDerZee captured black life in Harlem. The foreword is written by well noted historian and photographer Deborah Wills and Lonnie Bunche III, who is the Director of the National Museum of American History, wrote a wonderful article on remembering Black Washington. I feel as though I've found a treasure! This is a great book and I highly recommend it.
