A really awesome book that will open your eyes to the huge role parasites play in ecosystems. The explanations of how parasites infest and manipulate their hosts are jaw-dropping (and often pretty disgusting). Zimmer's writing is very lucid and compelling. If you have any interest in biology or evolution, you'll love this book.

Will change how you view life
If you are an evolutionist (I am) this gives you a new take on why things evolve - in great measure to control parasites. This is the kind of book you buy to loan to your intellectual friends. The arms race of life did not start when animals invented teeth and shells in the Cambrian Revolution. There is a deadlier battle going on long before that to prevent parasites from killing their hosts or debilitating them to the point that they can't compete. It is still going on today. A strong case is made that sexual reproduction was a necessary evolutionary response to parasitism.
The book is well written and full of insights. Read it. Really.
