Very Good in Near Fine jacket. Book. Inscribed by the Artist, with an Additional Sketch Slim, unpaginated book with approximately 30 illustrations of one artist's portraits of another artist as he neared and crossed over into death. Hardcover general trade edition, bound in red cloth covered boards with gold stamping to the cover and spine, wrapped in an illustrated paper dustjacket. A warm inscription signed by the artist and accompanied by an ink sketch of a rooster on the copyright page. The corners of the book are bumped--the lower corners a bit more so than the upper ones--and the dustjacket has a bit of wear, although now encased in a Mylar protective sleeve.

Signed By Authors Red cloth with large gilt illustration on front board, in dust jacket., the dj has two very small, closed edge-tears to back panel and very small bits of wear to certain corners, spine edges. the book itself is flawless.; printed in an unnumbered first edition of 2, 000 copies. 100 were signed by authors and messer, and 50 were signed and included an original messer monoprint. this copy was apparently one of the first edition, yet, is signed by johnson and inscribed by messer with a large original drawing of a crowing rooster (like the one which appears on the dedication page) by messer, dated 7/1/98, all on the first white, blank endpaper. a unique copy.; unpaginated., 32 illustrations in color, b/w., essays by denis johnson and eleanor e. "red lips" gaver.; jon serl was a nonagenarian, california outsider artist when sam messer met and befriended him. this book contains numerous paintings and drawings of serl by messer.; (if there is an image of the cover with this listing, it is not of my doing, and is very likely incorrect., ed.).
