This 2022 Deutsche Grammophon release is the debut of Magdalena Hoffmann, principal harpist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. It's been quite a commercial success, which may be due to a lack of recent virtuoso harp albums, to a desire for music in an entirely nostalgic genre in the midst of dire headlines and pandemic fatigue, to Hoffmann's considerable charisma, or even to Deutsche Grammophon's unusually strong engineering, which lends the harp a brilliant yet intimate quality.
