Even more noteworthy is the absence of any performer's name in the graphics. Apparently the compilers thought the name Sequentia would be unfamiliar to the target market, but this Swiss-German group was largely responsible for popularizing Hildegarde's music in the 1980s and 1990s, and you could hardly do better for a sampler. That's what you get here. The recordings are drawn from Sequentia's six albums of Hildegarde's music; the original sources are not indicated, but a large group seems to come from Symphoniae/Spiritual Songs (1983). The group cultivated a stark, dramatic sound that brought out the soaring, mystical lines of many of Hildegarde's chants, accompanying them lightly with one or more medieval fiddles...
