Kirsch writes this like a lawyer's brief and with a lawyer's concern for separating facts from the background. You can almost begin to see the various layers of history piled on top of one another in the Torah, as each writer strove to put their spin on the story. Most fascinating to me was the case Kirsch made for Miriam being more important that Moses, and that Moses may be a wholly fictional character. Read this in conjunction with some of Karen Armstrong's work.
P.S. You'll need an open mind.
