I bought this book a long time ago. I think in early 1980's. I have always been a fan of the elephant. I remeber taking one of my grand children to the nearest zoo fo an elephant ride. I think I was more excited than she!
The reason I actually even thought of going to the zoo was because I had read this book. I had fallen in love with Modoc. It was for me a happy book to read and also a very sad book. But I fininshed it and I, to this day remember reading about Modoc. An elephant who seems to know things better than I. Better than, I dare say, a lot of humans who think they know things.
I can't say enough about this book. It is because of this book that I keep Modoc in my mind to this day. I remember my late husband asking why am I crying over a book! I was at the time, and still am, remembering the plight of the elephant with sadness and happiness for them. WE have no regard for the plight of the elephant, why should we? WE are so far above the animal kingdom!
I can only say you must read about Modoc. Maybe, you too will come to realize, these creatures ARE LIVE and WE do have a responsibility to help them in anyway to live in their natural habitat, unbothered by men who see it otherwise!
