The work is in nine sections, for an ensemble of some two dozen players, and all Torke says about it is that it "is a continuous 43-minute composition, in nine parts, whose tempo is a consistent 126 beats per minute." The music ebbs and flows a bit, and there are traces of the jazz rhythms heard in Torke's other works, but for the most part, this is minimalist music, slightly jazzed-up Steve Reich, moved out to Los Angeles to soak up the mellow harmonies. One's reaction to it will depend largely on one's reaction to the larger minimalist project, but note that the performances here have the precision that has made the recordings of Reich and Glass so successful.
