Madeline and her friend are taken by the gypsies and forget how to write. It employes old stereotypes concerning Gypsies. I'm half Roma( PC version of gypsy) and still loved the tale. The gypsies are shown as nice artistic people instead of theives. This is a great book. My mom used to read this all the time to my siblings and I. Adults seem to love this cute little Madeline and her unconventional adventures.
