In addition, an old friend to both men, Myung Fan Lone, shows up, fueling the fires of jealousy. Myung also happens to be the agent for the most popular pop star in the galaxy, Sharon Apple (who is actually a hologram), fulfilling the "Macross" franchise tradition of including rock and pop stars as key plot figures.
