The album explores a variety of pieces, but many of them seem to focus on ballads that tell a tale of a particular character, often with an eerie mood. Boesch has picked repertoire that fits him like a glove; his baritone is clear and dark without ever becoming murky or pulled-back. The opening song, "Edward," is enticingly low and menacing; in it, the title character has murdered his father and confesses his deed to his mother.
