WARNING: This book is HUGE! 719 pages! You do not want to fall asleep reading it, as I did! You could give yourself a concussion!
I'm usually a fan of Elizabeth George's books. Not so much this one. I had trouble getting through it, both because of it's massive size, but also because the story seemed to go on. And on. And on. Another issue I have with it is that only bits and pieces actually take place in England. Most of the story takes place in Italy, and the book is filled with Italian phrases. Rather distracting for me. If I wanted to learn Italian, I would buy Rosetta Stone.
In spite of the size of the book, the ending seemed, to me at least, to have been rushed. Without giving anything away, I also felt that there should have been some consequences, and closure of some issues. The story felt unfinished.
I actually breathed a sigh of relief when I finished the last page. I have a friend who is an Elizabeth George fan who wants to read the book. I almost feel guilty passing the book on. She's from Europe, so perhaps she will enjoy the book more than I did.
