I am a big fan of the life and films of Ingrid Bergman and I have read a number of books about her. The one written by Charlotte Chandler did not give me any new authentic material, but I still enjoy reading about this wonderful and remarkable woman.
What surprised me is one detail - apparently Ingrid supposedly told her then boyfriend photographer Capa, that she has "a bit of Jewish blood " on the German side of her family. It is unbelievable and never mentioned by anyone . The German family abut which she writes in the book "My Story" was pro-German and "very German". Also knowing the history /I have German roots/, Germany really looked at the background of their people in those years and her mother's family would be pushed to leave Germany or something else if there was Jewish blood.
So - why does Ms. Chandler give us something that is "out of the blue", never even mentioned by the actress herself or anyone else. It is not a fair journalistic method.
