While it wouldn't be quite correct to call Dr. Hook simply a mouthpiece band, the fact remains that the group's most memorable songs were penned by Silverstein, from "Cover of the Rolling Stone" to "Sylvia's Mother," and with deadly satirical Silverstein tunes like "I Got Stoned and I Missed It" and "Looking for Pussy" in their back pocket, Dr. Hook managed to have it both ways: they scored huge pop hits and got to laugh at it all with a wink and a grin, a maneuver that gave them cultural credence for a time.
