Excerpt from Historical Sketch of the German-English Independent School of Indianapolis: Our Old School Frederick Stein, the father of the author of these pages, who had been elect ed the City Clerk Of our city only a short while before, aided in this movement and may have had some weight with the councilmen owing to prestige attendant upon being the first of his party, the newly-born Republican party, to attain to that Office.
