Taking it from when standup met the album format onward, Hey, That's Funny! doesn't include any of the man who's keeping the kids in the comedy section in the 2000s -- Adam Sandler -- and none of the guy who got half the attention in the '90s -- Andrew Dice Clay -- but most others are here, and the tracks picked to represent them are good enough. Kicking off with Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor proves somebody at Rhino knows who the Beatles and Stones of comedy are, but a little roots material like "Who's On First" or a Stan Freberg track would've been nice. You get Paul Reiser instead of the Firesign Theatre, but including a bit of a Redd Foxx "party" record is smart and hopefully some will get turned on to Flip Wilson because of the collection. You'd really need a big box set to tell the story that Hey, That's Funny! hints at, and the quick jumping around of styles makes this a hard start-to-finish listen.
