The Sixteen's Helper and Protector: Italian Maestri in Poland is the fourth volume in its series of Renaissance choral music by Italian composers who found employment in the court of King Sigismund III Vasa. Included in this program are works by Asprilio Pacelli, Vincenzo Bertolusi, and most importantly, Luca Marenzio, whose motet for eight voices, Iniquos odio habui, and the Missa super Iniquos odio habui receive special attention in this 2016 Coro release. The Kyrie and Gloria were thought to be the only surviving movements until the rest of the mass was found by Barbara Przybyszewska-Jarminska after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. This is the first complete recording of the work from her edition, and it is complemented by the other selections, which are consistent in their pure 16th century counterpoint and performed with luminous sound and sublime clarity by The Sixteen, led by Eamonn Dougan, who has curated this series.
