In their second feature with director Richard Lester, who oversaw the massive hit A Hard Day's Night, the Beatles again aim for a mix of goofy comedy and sterling pop music. In their second feature with director Richard Lester, who oversaw the massive hit A Hard Day's Night, the Beatles again aim for a mix of goofy comedy and sterling pop music. There is slightly more of a plot this time, though it is a patently ridiculous one: a sacred ruby ring comes into Ringo's possession, attracting the unwelcome attention of an exotic religious cult and forcing the boys to go on the run. This chase narrative is thankfully never taken too seriously, serving mainly as an excuse for colorful excursions to international locations from Europe to the Bahamas. The musical numbers include such classic tunes as "Ticket to Ride," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and, of course, "Help!". Judd Blaise, Rovi

Great classic comedy with the Beatles. The songs in the movie are shot like music videos.

HELP..............Yourself To Some Fun!
TITLE: Help!
GENRE: Musical Comedy
CAST: The Beatles, Eleanor Bron, Leo McKern, Victor Spinetti, Roy Kinnear and Patrick Cargill (and deleted, Wendy Richard)
PLOT: Ringo has a ring (ya think?) that is essential to a sacrificial ceremony of an obscure eastern cult. The wearer of the ring must be painted red and sacrificed by moon's end or they select another wearer of the ring. Ringo says fine take the ring, but it won't come off. So off they go on their routine trek of song recording around the world with the cultists and a mad scientist in hot persuit.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 9 of 10; It is a big bit of music history. Just as the Beatles revolutionized the song industry, they changed the musical comedy industry too. Had it not been for this movie, "Tommy" by the Who probably never would have been made. And Mtv would only be in dreams.
DVD BONUS: A whole second disc with interviews and commentary by the director, Richard Lester. The deleted scene of Wendy Richard, about the restoration of : the film, the sound track. Memories expressed by other cast and crew, three theatrical trailers.
ADDED NOTES: I don't think anyone should add any notes to anything Beatles. They wrote the notes just fine by themselves.

Great Fun!
If you like the Monkeys, the 60's groovie sit-com, take a chance to see the real 4 acting and singing. Quintessential English and 60's! My kids were mesmerized when they learned that the Beatles had no playback (some rock
stars today do not make an effort even to sing on videos) and the Beatles were singing beautifully (obviously the young Ringo, George Harrison, Sir McCartney and Lennon were another surprise - they could not recognize them). It gives you an idea from where MTV came from because Richard Lester is really the father of MTV. Historical, must see.
