I was really looking forward to reading this book and Marillier did not disappoint. Although this story cannot compare with the beloved Sevenwaters Trilogy, I found it brilliant in a different way. Heart?s Blood was gothic and eerie but not overwhelmingly so. It had somewhat of a Jane Eyre feel to it. I can truly say that it is the first ghost story I have ever liked. Marillier?s work is always thorough, and when I am finished reading, I feel satisfied. Each time I read one of her books, I fall in love with every character with their flaws and their secrets. She weaves together every element that is needed to bring the story to life and create a wonderful tale. The more I think about it the story and its characters, the more I like it. I couldn?t decide if I wanted to give Heart?s Blood 4 or 5 stars, but I decided to give it 5. Marillier never disappoints me. Her writings never fail to bring me adventure, excitement, love, passion? could a reader ask for any more? Thanks Juliet!
