TITLE: Little Moon & Jud McGraw (Gone With The West)
GENRE: Western comedy/spoof
CAST: James Caan, Stephanie Powers, Aldo Ray, Sammy Davis Jr and Polly Bergen
PLOT: The recipe for creating a wild west ghost town. The town is run by a no good outlaw and his gang. They rob a stage and get the blame placed on the shotgun rider, who escapes from prison to return and seek
revenge. While he is working his vengence, he encounters a woman who was violated by the gang and also wants revenge. She doen't speak english and some of the most humorous scenes are the attempted communication (Powers didn't have to speak one word of english in this film.) The two of them occupy the high ground and use it to their advantage to satisfy their thirst.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 6 of 10; This film is stunt action from beginning to end. A scene of Powers' body double taking a mountain pool bath is titilating. I sense this appears to have set the standard for made for TV movies back in the late 60's. The Director is a Hitchcock protege so there is never a 'bad' scene, just not enough good ones. Aldo Ray plays one of his most up front supporting roles as the bad guy. If you can find Polly Bergen, your eyes are better than mine. Many casting managers also learned the limits of Davis' acting abilities (He's
definitely a singing hoofer not a scene player)
DVD BONUS: You can stop action the pool bath. You can stop action on some wonderful shots of Powers' beautiful face as well. This I think was one major reason for the movie. The other was to distance Caan from his Godfather image.
