First edition, tight and nice, with choice autograph addition: Tipped to inside front wrapper is a Typed Note Signed from McMurtry, 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Fort Wayne, IN, 15 August 1968. Addressed to Arnold Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln scholar). Near fine. Two original mailing folds. On pictorial letterhead of "The Lincoln National Life Foundation, " which lists him as director, McMurtry sends "Many thanks for the two copies of Ambassador which carries the story 'Strange Odyssey of Lincoln's Clothes. ' This is of particular interest to me as I hope to do an article on Lincoln's Assassination Clothes for the November Lincoln Lore." Signed simply "Gerald" in big, bold black ink. McMurtry (1906-88) directed the Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum from 1956 to 1973 and wrote more than 200 articles, pamphlets and books about Lincoln.
