Angell is the master. This one marginally less interesting than The Summer Game or Season Tickets only because the period covered was itself so. Written as journalism, these volumes are now part of baseball history, but are far more than nostalgia, although they are certainly that as well. Angell's insights into the game, seen through the players' eyes as well as the fan's, are timeless, and they portray a much more innocent period of the pastime.
