The writer is quite "wordy", be he does include many ideas to make the congregation more welcoming, worshipful, and generous. Most of his examples apply to large churches, but can be adapted for mid-size or small churches. The book could be used by leaders in group sessions to brainstorm ideas for improvement.

Inspiring though repetitive
The most valuable aspects of this book are the way Schnase invites and then illustrates some of the ways churches need to think outside the boxes that have confined them for too long, and the structured way in which he helps churches conceive of their life together in order to analyze and bring remedies to problem areas in an orderly fashion. Beneath it all is a love for God as known in Jesus Christ and a love for the Church. It is a worthwhile book for all, accessible to lay and clergy alike.

For the Serious Seeker Only
Bishop Schnase's original text here, apart from his complete publications for the committed church body, offers an enlightening review of how a passion and hunger to be more Christ-like in community appears to the observer.
Inherent in reading this text are reflections for the reader's expected outcomes. For example, if you are a member of a small membership church, do you really want children, but only if they act like you? Or do you want young families, but only if they think like you?
As truthful observations of someone committed to discovering and using tools for growth and change, indeed, even with the intent of creating an environment for transforming experiences, this text offers an holistic approach for the serious seeker of Church growth with its' heartfelt suggestions. This text should be read and used.

Radical hospitality
For almost 2 months I saw the same couple come to our Saturday night service. Mr. Graham came up to me and introduced himself, but I made no effort to make him and wife feel comfortable. They joined the church and I welcomed them again and the next Thursday we had a food drop and I made an effort to shake his hand again and show him where the work was to be done. Afterwords I read to day five of the Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations and felt a real relieve come over me. It isn't easy for me to greet new atendees but after this book I will certainly do so as soon I see the next ones. Thank you Bishop Schnase for your advice.
