The "Field Guide for Western Birds" was more than I ever imagined it would be. It is so good looking with extensive illustrations of the birds most watched by me and contains of course much more information about those I have never heard of. I love to watch, identify and count the birds throughout the year with the Cornell University program. It has already been a great source for me, as I enjoy referring to the book as my feathered friends congregate in my yard,

good reference
Excellent reference guide for ID and general info for birds in the western US, The info is helpful for the novice and can be used with more complex guides.

Great book for novice birdwatchers. Colour photos describe each listing, with only a few exceptions. My only concern was the cross-referencing of habitat (maps in the appendix) were not listed in the same order as the birds appeared in the body of the book. Other than that, I would definitely recommend for those interested in birdwatching in the western parts of North America.
