This particular book is extremely useful for English costume research. The gentleman who wrote it focuses entirely on English costume from the Norman invasion in 1066 to the Edwardian period and it is broken down by reigning monarch. It's not a difficult read as it is written very conversationally for such an old book. Additionally, the illustrations are a lovely addition. Most of the illustrations are black and white, small drawings, but there are a number of full-page, full-color illustrations that are useful and pretty to look at. Overall, a good resource for a fairly narrow niche of research.
