This 'literary biography' is written by one of my favorite authors and is about one of my favorite books, so I cannot possibly be very objective while talking about it; in fact, all I can do is to stop myself from constantly gushing. This book celebrates the life of Douglas Adams, and also the various incarnations of the idea that became ?The Hitchhiker?s Guide to the Galaxy?, and pretty much everything else Douglas worked on. It's an easy and elegant read, and Gaiman wisely stays in the background, letting DNA and his friends and associates tell their stories almost verbatim, so that the book has that funny, and serious, and faintly baffled quality, all at the same time. If for nothing else, it will be indispensable to DNA and THGTTG fans as a treasure trove of quotes and anecdotes and trivia, including Adams' first published story in 'Eagle', at the age of twelve, that showed 'a certain precocious talent'.
