You might object to the acoustics here: Deutsche Grammophon's engineers seem to have struggled with the rather cavernous Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, producing a muddy sound in the live Piano Concerto in G minor, Op. 40, and a rather brittle edge in the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18. None of it matters. If the marketing concept serves to introduce new listeners to Rachmaninov's concertos, those listeners will get the very best.
