Very Good. First French edition. Six parts. 12mos. An untrimmed set in the original light purple paper wrappers pasted over printers' waste sheets, with printed paper spine labels. Small number “669” written in ink at the bottom of each spine. Spines are lightly toned, the spine label on part one is worn, a few scattered short tears, front wrap of part five is soiled, very good overall. First published in Geneva in 1802, this is the first French edition of Madame de Staël's provocative, first great novel. A beautiful set, rarely found in the original wrappers.
