This dance cardio offering from Julianne Hough (of 'Dancing With the Stars' fame) is a worthwhile addition to the cardio library of anyone who is at a reasonable level of fitness to begin with. It should also be said that some ability to pick up dance steps is helpful. I am by no means a dancer (I've had three classes...EVER) but was able to follow along well enough to get an intense workout out of this DVD.
There are three sections:
1) Cha-Cha - a full body cardio workout that works your abdomen and legs
2) Jive - a manically intense cardio workout that really doesn't stop
3) Paso Doble - a stately, slower cardio workout that focuses on large, strong moves. This one is slightly less difficult than the first two, if only because if it tried to match the pace of the cha cha or the jive, at home participants would probably fall over dead.
My snarky comments should not be taken as criticism; on the contrary, this is a highly effective way to raise one's heart-rate, and I end the workout every time completely drenched in sweat. Julianne is encouraging and does a decent job of cuing the moves. Aside from a few whoops that I could have done without, she's not annoying, either.
This is one of the good ones; it's a workout for fit people to improve their fitness, or something to work up to for those people who aspire to be fit.
